Nigeria has had a total of at least 8 military dictators and 4 democratically elected leader in its 47 years of Independence. Musa Yaradua is the first leader of the lot with a University Degree. Until he started his political career he was a lecturer of Chemistry.
Although it would be ridiculuous for me to suggest that having a degree automatically makes you a smart person, but a science degree develops a logical and analytical approach to problem solving.
Everyday that goes by, we are beginning to see the difference between this patriot of a man and the nicompoos that came before him. I'm optimistic about the future of Nigeria but am also conscious of the difficult road ahead for him.
It is my hope that Mr President can sanitize a rotten system and remove the putrid stench that clouds Nigeria's political and socio-economic system today.
